Who runs this site

sv-emogene.com is a private, non-commercial website run by the owner of the sailing vessel Emogene, a 1984 Cambria 44. It serves as the boat's logbook and maintenance record, and is used by the owner and a small number of invited crew members. It sells nothing, carries no advertising, and is not open to public registration.

For any question about this policy, or to ask for your information to be deleted, use the form at the bottom of this page. It reaches the owner directly, and a reply comes to the address you give.

What information is collected

The site collects only what it needs to operate:

  • Your email address. Required to sign in. Access is limited to a list of approved addresses maintained by the owner; an address that is not on that list cannot create an account.
  • Your Google account name, email address and profile picture — only if you choose to sign in with Google, and only the basic profile information Google provides for that purpose. The site does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google service.
  • A display name you set yourself, shown to other crew members alongside anything you post.
  • Content you add. Photographs you upload, guest log entries, maintenance and survey notes, equipment and inventory records, and any documents you choose to store on the site.
  • Sign-in records. The date and time of your sign-ins, kept so the owner can see who has been using the site.
  • Questions you ask the on-site assistant. The site includes an assistant that answers questions about the vessel. The text of your question, and the vessel records needed to answer it, are sent to Anthropic for processing.

There is no advertising on this site, no advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics service collecting your browsing behaviour.

How the information is used

Information collected by this site is used only to:

  • confirm that you are an approved crew member and let you sign in;
  • show other crew members who posted a photograph, log entry or maintenance note;
  • operate the features of the site — passage plans, records, documents and the assistant;
  • send you a sign-in code or a password reset link when you ask for one.

Your information is never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. It is not used to build advertising profiles, and it is not used to train machine-learning or AI models.

Google user data

If you sign in with Google, this site receives your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account. This information is used solely to identify you as an approved crew member and to display who you are to other crew.

Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, this site does not transfer your Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve the site, does not use it for advertising, does not sell it, and does not allow humans to read it except with your consent, for security purposes, or where required by law.

You can revoke this site's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Doing so stops future Google sign-ins; to have the information already stored removed, write to the address above.

Who else handles this information

The site runs on services operated by other companies. Each handles data only to provide its service, and none receives information for its own marketing purposes:

  • Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage. Crew accounts, records and uploaded photographs are stored here, on servers in the United States.
  • Cloudflare — hosting and delivery of the website itself, and encrypted backups of the site's records.
  • Resend — delivery of the emails the site sends, such as sign-in codes and password reset links.
  • Anthropic — processing of questions asked of the on-site assistant.
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with your Google account.

Information may also be disclosed if required by law, or to protect the safety of the vessel, her crew, or the site itself.

How long information is kept

Crew accounts and the content you add are kept for as long as the site operates, because the site's purpose is to be a durable record of the vessel. Sign-in records are kept while your account is active. If your access is withdrawn, or you ask for your account to be removed, your account and personal details are deleted; records about the boat itself — maintenance history, survey items and similar — are retained as part of the vessel's log.

Your choices

  • You can ask to see what information the site holds about you.
  • You can ask for it to be corrected, or for your account and personal details to be deleted.
  • You can sign in with an emailed code or a password instead of Google, in which case no Google information is collected at all.
  • You can stop using the site at any time and ask for your access to be removed.

Requests go through the form below and are handled personally by the owner.

Cookies and local storage

The site stores a sign-in session in your browser so that you stay signed in between visits, and remembers your choice of light or dark appearance. Nothing else is stored on your device, and none of it is used for tracking or advertising. Clearing your browser's site data signs you out and removes it.

Security

All traffic to the site is encrypted. Records are protected by database access rules so that signed-in crew can reach only what they are permitted to see, and access is restricted to an approved list of email addresses. No system is perfectly secure, but this is a small private site with a short list of users, and it is kept that way deliberately.

Children

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. Crew access is granted personally by the owner.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Crew members will be told directly about any change that affects how their information is handled.

Contact the owner

Use this form for any question about this policy, to ask what information is held about you, or to request that it be deleted. Messages go straight to the owner, who answers them personally.
